#TFGBridalPlan breakfast and snack ideas

DSC02084Good afternoon, foodies!

If you haven’t seen my bridal eating and sweating plan, check it out here before going any further. To continue the #tfgbridalplan series, I present you with a few breakfast and/or snack ideas.

This particular bowl was enjoyed as a breakfast. Plain non-fat Fagé Greek yogurt, drizzle of honey, fresh strawberrries and Kind granola. Strawberry season is finally here. Favorite time of year!

Enjoyed while watching the live streaming of the George W. Bush library dedication at my alma mater, Southern Methodist University. It was such a moving dedication, with all 5 living presidents and first ladies up on stage at my school. So cool.

Next up is a snack idea. Can be breakfast too. During my bridal plan, I’ve tried to reach for something healthier than tortilla chips + salsa or trail mix or just…chocolate. To tide me over until dinner (and to avoid overeating at dinner), I whipped up a little strawberry banana protein smoothie.

(Balancing on my tiny little balcony)

Into the Vitamix went:

1 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 banana

1 scoop Juice Plus vanilla Complete (plant based protein powder)

Coconut water (enough to get things moving)

Smoothies have been my go-to snack and breakfast for the past few weeks…and I almost always include a few handfuls of kale/spinach. But I wanted something pink this time :)

As far as my bridal plan goes, let me tell you I have not been perfect. I had Chick fil A for lunch yesterday and pizza the night before. As I’ve said before, it’s all about the balance. Eat an awesome salad, drink a green smoothie and stay healthy when you can. Sometimes a Friday night just calls for a pepperoni pizza and I have to be ok with that.

Workouts this week went as follows:

Monday: ran 4 miles, walked 1

Tuesday: in-home dance workout (YouTube–thanks for the idea, Steph) + upper arm free weight workout

Wednesday: 1 hour vinyasa yoga

Thursday: rest

Friday: 1 hour vinyasa yoga

Saturday: 1 hour brisk walk

This week I will be aiming to go to yoga more often, but I am leaving first thing Friday morning for my Bachelorette party! Can’t wait! Stay tuned for more meal ideas sticking with my #tfgbridalplan!

Labor Day training time

Good morning and Happy Labor Day!

This morning began with these shoes. Not only is it Labor Day, but it’s also the beginning of my training for the St. Jude Half Marathon!! I will be running with my Mom on December 1st in the Memphis St. Jude Marathon!

Training will be difficult…this morning already was. I just have to remind myself that I love exercising. And refueling.

Upon walking in the door, I needed some nutrition FAST. This smoothie isn’t exactly pretty, but it tastes like a milkshake.

In the blender:

1 scoop chocolate Juice Plus Complete (plant based protein powder)

1 TB almond butter

1/2 banana

handful ice

Almond milk

Today was 3 miles in 30 minutes and tomorrow will be a crosstraining day. Just a heads up that I will be reporting to you all here at TFG to keep myself accountable! But don’t worry– I won’t forget about the food! The rest of my Labor Day will be spent hanging out with my fiance doing whatever we feel like! What will you be doing?

Bon Appetit,

new apartment and healthy eats

I’m almost all moved into my new apartment! It’s pretty cute, and the location rocks.

It will only be a year at this apartment, but I think it will be an awesome place to live.

Anyway! On to my eats lately. I’ve really been trying hard to do a What I Ate Wednesday, and I got really close this week…until I forgot to photograph my dinner and I forgot it was Wednesday. Grrreat. So here’s some things I’ve had lately.

Meet Mr. Green Drink. You’ve probably already met, but this one is with almond milk instead of my usual orange juice. It made it less sweet (a good thing) but a little too creamy. Jam packed with spinach as usual.

For lunch I had the other half of my Central Market sandwich. I love that they have a new sandwich bar where you can order up a custom sandwich. This one was whole wheat bread, turkey, hummus, their delicious pesto, cucumber & arugula. It really hit the spot. Ripe strawberries on the side. Let me just tell you I was hungry a few hours later…too small of a lunch for me!

What is your go-to lunch? I’ve been sticking to either sandwiches or tacos. Salads have not piqued my interest in the slightest.

Daily Juice means daily health

Ok, it’s officially August here in Texas. Would you look at that forecast? Awful. Good thing I’m escaping to the West Coast in 5 days.

This weekend I traveled south on IH-35 to go home to Austin, Texas. One of my favorite places in the world (and I’m totally not biased for saying that), going home means getting to relax, boat on Lake Austin, eat awesome food, and be with family and friends.

On Friday, I grabbed my little sister and brought her with me to Pure Barre. After a grueling workout, we headed to Daily Juice for a light breakfast/ energy.

Daily Juice

What: juice bar/ smoothies/ health food

Where: Austin, TX

As everyone knows, Austin’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird” (meaning: support local businesses). With Daily Juice, you can’t get any weirder. From the outside of the building to the staff– they’ve got you covered in the weird department.

As far as their drinks go, they’re always super healthy and refreshing and always fresh. I ordered the “Cool Hand Cuke” which comes with organic cucumber, organic apple, mint, lime and Himalayan salt. Sounds exotic, right? The salt made for an interesting flavor, but because it’s 110 degrees in Texas, I drank it all up in just a few minutes. My little sister ordered the strawberry limeade–the most natural and fresh-tasting strawberry limeade I’ve ever tasted.

They also have juice cleansing programs and plenty of health “shots”, if you will.

Although the drinks are great, they’re pretty overpriced. The smoothies and juices are all delicious, so I think it’s worth it to get one at least every few times I go back home. I highly recommend trying it out, but just don’t make it a daily juice.

Bon appétit,
