#TFGBridalPlan breakfast and snack ideas

DSC02084Good afternoon, foodies!

If you haven’t seen my bridal eating and sweating plan, check it out here before going any further. To continue the #tfgbridalplan series, I present you with a few breakfast and/or snack ideas.

This particular bowl was enjoyed as a breakfast. Plain non-fat Fagé Greek yogurt, drizzle of honey, fresh strawberrries and Kind granola. Strawberry season is finally here. Favorite time of year!

Enjoyed while watching the live streaming of the George W. Bush library dedication at my alma mater, Southern Methodist University. It was such a moving dedication, with all 5 living presidents and first ladies up on stage at my school. So cool.

Next up is a snack idea. Can be breakfast too. During my bridal plan, I’ve tried to reach for something healthier than tortilla chips + salsa or trail mix or just…chocolate. To tide me over until dinner (and to avoid overeating at dinner), I whipped up a little strawberry banana protein smoothie.

(Balancing on my tiny little balcony)

Into the Vitamix went:

1 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 banana

1 scoop Juice Plus vanilla Complete (plant based protein powder)

Coconut water (enough to get things moving)

Smoothies have been my go-to snack and breakfast for the past few weeks…and I almost always include a few handfuls of kale/spinach. But I wanted something pink this time :)

As far as my bridal plan goes, let me tell you I have not been perfect. I had Chick fil A for lunch yesterday and pizza the night before. As I’ve said before, it’s all about the balance. Eat an awesome salad, drink a green smoothie and stay healthy when you can. Sometimes a Friday night just calls for a pepperoni pizza and I have to be ok with that.

Workouts this week went as follows:

Monday: ran 4 miles, walked 1

Tuesday: in-home dance workout (YouTube–thanks for the idea, Steph) + upper arm free weight workout

Wednesday: 1 hour vinyasa yoga

Thursday: rest

Friday: 1 hour vinyasa yoga

Saturday: 1 hour brisk walk

This week I will be aiming to go to yoga more often, but I am leaving first thing Friday morning for my Bachelorette party! Can’t wait! Stay tuned for more meal ideas sticking with my #tfgbridalplan!

Healthy Smoothie Breakfasts

Hi guys,

Before I get to the smoothie, I want to say my heart is feeling heavy this morning. My heart goes out to anyone and everyone involved in the Boston bombings that happened yesterday afternoon. When you hear “Pray for Boston,” remember to actually take a moment and say a quick prayer for all who have been affected by this horrific event.

That being said, I want to move on to a healthy breakfast idea. A tropical green smoothie!

DSC01832You can really make several variations of green smoothies, but lately, this has been my favorite combination. Full of plant-based protein (Juice Plus Complete), potassium, iron and probiotics. And it’s a salad in a smoothie!

DSC01829Tropical Green Smoothie

2 handfuls baby spinach

3 Tb plain Greek yogurt

1.5-2 cups frozen mango (or fruit of your choice)

1 scoop Juice Plus Complete (protein powder)

Coconut Water (enough to get things moving)

DSC01830Blend it up! Be sure to put the spinach in first!

Next up is the bridal eating and exercising plan! I’m less than 8 weeks away, and I have a plan even non-brides will want to follow! Be on the lookout for it!

Training Day 2

Good morning!

…and welcome back to work or school. This morning was really hard for me to wake up and feel like doing anything. But once I hit the gym, got my blood pumpin, I was ready to start being productive. I even typed out my grocery list on my phone while I was exercising. 2 birds 1 stone.

Training Day #2 is 30-40 mins of cross training. I did 25 mins on the elliptical, then I got bored and switched to incline interval speed walking. Just trying to up the endurance! Tonight I will be doing 1 hour of vinyasa yoga.

After the sweat session, it was time for protein. Although it didn’t sound that appealing because I had the same smoothie yesterday, I knew my body needed it. (1 scoop chocolate Complete + 1 TB almond butter + 1 banana + handful ice + almond milk).

Creamy and delicious. I am trying to use up the last 2 cans of chocolate protein powder before the month’s end (before expiration), so tonight I might try to make chocolate protein balls. We shall see if I have enough energy.

Another exciting part about training for a race? New gear! I headed into Luke’s Locker and left with lots of new stuff.

I’ve read a lot about compression socks, and I think it’s going to be a good idea especially for my Saturday long distance runs. They were $60 just for one pair. You read that right.

It’s quite a project to get them on, but once they’re up, they help keep the muscles warm and promote blood flow while preventing injuries. With 8 months til my wedding (eeeee!) I can’t afford an injury in my future. Not sure how cute these are going to look, but I promise I’ll get a photo of me in them up here sometime.

New Saucony running shoes!! I loved the service at Luke’s Locker and the close attention to detail. I tried on about 4 pairs starting with the least amount of support to greatest amount. I explained to the sales guy that I had surgery on my foot almost 9 months ago (can you believe that much time has passed?!) so I needed something with support. He had me running around the store (literally) and although I felt like an idiot, he was able to evaluate the way my foot strikes at each step, leading us to this shoe!

If you have a Luke’s Locker near you, I highly recommend it.

I also purchased a few pairs of running shorts–an especially cute cut by North Face. That’s it for now. More food photos in the next post!

Happy Friday foodies!

It’s currently 12:07pm and I’m trying to wake myself up. Pitiful. I slept for 12 hours last night, but in my defense I woke up quite a few times with horrible pains in my foot that got operated on 36 days ago.

Because of my frustrations of having to be in this stupid thing for 7 more weeks (YES SEVEN),

I decided today is a good day to look at the bright side of things. One, I used my nice camera for a few photos on this post (the one above being one of them), but as you can probably tell, I could only shoot from one spot. Ok, on to the silver lining.

Friday Favorites

1. A night out to reunite with my roommates at Mr. Mesero. And “Size 2″ skinny margaritas.

2. My breakfast yesterday of peanut butter “seeduction bread” and blueberries on the side. and the gorgeous natural light that came with it.

3. My experimental smoothie I made this morning. Fresh strawberries, banana, coconut milk, a dash of OJ, ice and Juice Plus Complete. (the best plant-based protein powder out there)

4. Spending time with the love of my life

5. Missing our sweet Molly, but smiling every time I see this photo

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend filled with awesome food, good company and lots of rest.

Bon appétit,
