Santa Monica: True Food Kitchen

Hi foodies!

I’ve been so bad at blogging lately, but don’t think I’m forgetting to document all things food (and not so food). Let’s just start from the end and work our way back. I just got back from a fun filled weekend in LA to visit my brothers. They were the sweetest hosts–I was even greeted with fresh raspberries at Travis’s apartment and freshly made gingerale at Matthew’s! I am very blessed to have such awesome brothers.

Yesterday we headed to the beach. Santa Monica to be exact. Spent some time walking around shopping and people watching, and just soaking up the sun. One day I will move to Santa Monica.
Before we even left the parking garage, I fell in love with a wall. Ha.

Perfect! We watched street performers, spent an hour in Kitson (most entertaining store ever) and eventually stumbled upon these awesome succulent globes. How gorgeous are these?

Since it would be difficult to get these home to Dallas, I got the pleasure of getting one for Travis. There’s even holes in the glass for the succulents to grow out of. Once your succulent has outgrown its habitat, you can bring it back to the vendor and she will replant it in a bigger globe!

After all that walking around, we headed straight to True Food Kitchen. We got to sit outside under an umbrella. Perfect amount of sunshine. Perfect temperature.

Travis started out with an açai beer. Foodie boy :) Please note guy in the background. So attractive.

I started out with their kale, apple, lemon & ginger juice. I can’t find a menu online, so I can’t remember what the name was. But it was delicious.

We began our meal with their hummus (feta on the side). It was good, but a bit too busy with all the tomato, cucumber & onion on top. I think that should have come on the side. Pita was freshly baked.

I’m aware this looks a bit odd. But it was so refreshing and balanced–great texture, just the right amount of crunch and perfect ingredients. That’s their chopped mediterranean salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, feta, marcona almonds, quinoa and ahi tuna on top. Kept me full all day long.

We had a great lunch at True Food. The whole menu was so awesome that it made it difficult to decide what I wanted to eat. Matthew had the tofu scramble burritos and Travis had the chicken sausage pizza.

After lunch we walked down the Santa Monica pier.

and found a poor little pelican who was being photographed by annoying tourists. (including  myself)

Hope you all had a great weekend. More fun stuff this week! Stay tuned.

Bon Appétit,

That Foodie Girl

  1. Natalie, that quinoa salad is exactly what I get every time Travis and I go to True Food! Santa Monica looks beautiful, as always; glad you had a wonderful weekend!

  2. It looks like you had such a great weekend! I love the first photo of Santa Monica and it sure makes me wish that USC was located there instead of in South Central Downtown LA ;)

I’ve been missing fresh juice, so I might have to stop by True Food Kitchen just to satisfy my craving. I’m glad you had fun with your brothers! Come visit again soon!

    • Definitely go to True Food to get that juice. It’s so delicious. Santa Monica is the best! I so wish USC were there too haha.

Also, how funny that you were tailgating with Kappa Sig. My older brother Matt was a Kappa Sig too and he was over there right during that time you were there….and I was like 10 ft away. Next time we’ll have to meet :)
